Building a Strong Workforce Starts with Education
Education is a popular topic across the country. It is also a timely and popular topic in the manufacturing industry because of the current and future state of the workforce. There was a time many years ago when manufacturing was not considered as a career for those looking for serious, sustainable work. But today’s manufacturing environments are much more technical, require employees to meet a certain skill level, and can lead to successful and interesting futures in manufacturing engineering.
Through a realization that building a strong workforce begins early, STEM education has become a focus of the educational community as well as the industrial sector. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math which is a curriculum based ideal to engage students early on to “21st century skills” that will benefit them as they enter the modern workforce.
We, as well as many other members of the manufacturing community, have realized the importance of educating students to careers in manufacturing. Many students and parents don’t know how technical and advanced manufacturing has become, with robotics and computers being integral parts of most operations.
Partnering with schools helps us expose students to the possibilities of a career in manufacturing. Through job and hiring fairs we are looking for people to join our team in this 21st century business by offering internships to teach students hand-on skills that will prepare them for their future.
Over the next few months we will be attending or hosting the following events:
- CLC (College of Lake County) – Internship Fair for Career Program for Students that fall under the Engineering, Math and Physical Science Division, Tuesday, February 16th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Building E, Grayslake, IL 60030.
- Dynomax Inc. Hiring Fair – D5 Wheeling, Friday, March 4th from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Saturday, March 5th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
- Triton College – Manufacturing and Engineering Job Fair, Friday, April 15th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Triton College, 2000 5th Ave, Room T-113, River Grove, IL 60171
We look forward to meeting students, parents, and educators on learning about exciting opportunities in manufacturing. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
